Allen Associates stepped up its involvement at this year’s ADI exhibition with Scott Allen taking a seat on one of the key panel discussions.
Following an invite from Bill Owens to be part of the Start Your Own Distillery panel at the London event, Scott advised on the key issues surrounding process safety compliance when setting up.
This is an area that is often neglected and it's only when the distillery is operational that issues are discovered. In order to ensure process compliance Scott recommended that distillers prepare a good accurate set of P&IDs and also carry out a HAZOP study prior to the construction of the distillery.
Scott also recommended that DSEAR risk assessments and hazardous area zoning are considered early on in the design process and not dealt with as an afterthought.
