Iceberg Vent Cooler Produces Pear Drops!

Wednesday, 20 April 2011

The results from the Iceberg Vent Cooler trial at Knockdhu Distillery are being evaluated, although first impressions show a definite pear drop ‘nose’.

Martin Smith and Kerry Anderson visited the distillery to collect samples of the condensed spirit which would normally be going to atmosphere if it was not for the iceberg venting system.

Martin was surprised how much spirit was collected and also the nose.  In his own words “It smelled just like pear drops”.  In essence this means that as well as collecting alcohol the system was also capturing some esters that were being lost to the atmosphere.
